Single-Chip Solution Enables Worldwide Deployment with Single SKU Model

CAMPBELL, Calif., May 6, 2008 – Wisair, a leading provider of single-chip based Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB solutions, today announced its Wireless USB solution was approved for distribution in Korea by the Radio Research Laboratory (RRL), the certification body under the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC). Together with regulatory approvals already received in the U.S., Japan and Europe, Wisair’s WSR601 chip now enables Wireless USB worldwide deployments with a single SKU (stock-keeping unit) model.

“We are excited to be the first Wireless USB supplier to meet the UWB Korean regulation,” said David Yaish, Wisair CEO. “On top of this, we understand that our OEM customers need to distribute a single hardware product to customers worldwide, regardless of the differences in regulatory emission requirements in different regions. Therefore, we have designed our chip to meet these requirements from the outset.”

The Wisair solution approved for operation in Korea includes a Wireless USB adapter, and is based on the Wisair WSR601 CMOS single chip. Wisair’s WSR601 technology is currently in production with several ODM partners with shipments to end consumers expected towards the end of this quarter.

“This is a promising step toward the worldwide adoption of Wireless USB. Korea is an increasingly important Asian market where consumer demand for wireless-enabled mobile devices continues to surge,” said Fiona Thomson, senior research analyst with IMS Research. “As the first Wireless USB technology is now approved for distribution in Korea, it will be exciting to watch the rate of adoption of this important technology.”

Wisair offers a range of Wireless USB reference designs implementing Native Wireless USB and Wire Adapter protocols. Using either USB or SDIO interfaces, these solutions enable a range of embedded and aftermarket Wireless USB products and offer the best combination of performance, price, and power consumption. For more details, see http://www.wisair.com/products/.

The WSR601 is the only Single Chip to Enable Single SKU Worldwide Solutions

CAMPBELL, Calif., March 4, 2008 – Wisair, a leading provider of single-chip based Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB solutions, today announced that its Wireless USB solution, based on its CMOS single chip, has been tested and conforms to European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Class 1 requirements, enabling shipment across Europe and to all EU member countries. Combined with the USB-IF certification received, the WSR601 CMOS single chip, currently in mass production, now supports worldwide product shipments.

“The demand for Wireless USB is continuing to surge with more and more manufacturers seeking to embed the technology into products, as well as provide cost-attractive aftermarket solutions,” said David Yaish, CEO of Wisair. “The WSR601 single chip not only delivers superior performance, but also enables cost-effective worldwide deployments with a single SKU (stock-keeping unit) model requiring no hardware changes.”

As the WSR601 chip conforms to the ETSI standard for class 1 UWB devices, it is readily available for shipments across Europe. With its low out-of-band emission (below -85dBm), the WSR601 enables compliance to multiple regulatory requirements without the need for band 3 filtering or other hardware changes. The European regulatory approval and USB-IF certification follows WiMedia platform certification, FCC, and Japanese regulatory approvals for the WSR601 chip.

“We are pleased to see Wisair achieve certifications for their single chip solution that will enable manufacturers to easily integrate Wireless USB in next-generation products,” said Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF president. “Wisair’s efforts to expand product availability around the globe will undoubtedly contribute to the broad adoption of Wireless USB.”

“The early approval of Wisair’s Wireless USB single-chip solutions in the European market will help drive the market adoption during this year,” said Fiona Thomson, senior market analyst, IMS Research. “As more start-ups come to market this year and in the race for the best solution, European regulatory approval is a must. Following 4Q07 product roll-out, 2008 will see promising shipments (sub 20MU), before the market really takes off in 2009.”

Based on CMOS single chip, Host/Device dongle set provides a compelling Wireless USB upgrade kit for wired USB Devices

CAMPBELL, Calif., January 4, 2007– Wisair, a leading provider of Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB (WUSB) chipset solutions, today announced a new Wireless USB host and device dongle set that delivers high-speed wireless connectivity to a range of USB devices such as printers, hubs, or external hard disk drives (HDD). Offering superior performance, lower cost, and improved ease of use compared to existing Wireless USB alternatives in the market today, the dongles enable OEMs to provide a compelling Wireless USB upgrade kit to end users.

To accelerate OEMs and ODMs time to market, the dongle reference design will be delivered as a production-ready solution, pre certified by WiMedia, USB-IF, FCC, and TELEC. Manufactured by leading ODMs, the reference design consists of a complete end-user package that includes a host dongle, a device dongle with power supply, software drivers, management application, and documentation.

Based on Wisair’s WSR601 CMOS single-die chip, the dongle set reference design incorporates Wisair’s UltraSpeed™ technology, which enhances Wireless USB throughput, while remaining fully compliant to Certified Wireless USB. UltraSpeed™ uses several acceleration schemes to optimize data processing and enables throughput in the range of 70-100 Mbps when connected to a Host Wire Adapter, and up to 200 Mbps when connected to a Wireless USB native host. Additionally, the dongle set provides a user-friendly Wireless USB association, eliminating the need for cables for initial association (pairing).

“Wisair remains fully committed to enabling the Wireless USB market by providing customers – whether OEMs or retailer outlets – with the functionality and price points required to meet end user demand,” said David Yaish, CEO at Wisair. “The new Wisair Wireless USB dongle set, with its extremely competitive price/performance combination, offers half the price and double the throughput compared to other solutions. It also offers OEMs a quick time to market, eliminating the need to submit their products for certification.”

Wisair’s new Wireless USB dongle reference design builds on its existing WSR601 chip portfolio of solutions. Other offerings include a Host Wired Adopter (HWA) PCI-e Mini and Half Mini card reference designs for notebook PCs, and native Wireless USB device modules for devices. The company also offers a complete development platform amongst other capabilities.

The new dongle set design is already in production by several tier-1 ODMs and will be demonstrated at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 7-10 in the WiMedia TechZone (LVCC South Hall 3, #31642), the USB-IF TechZone (South Hall 4, #35625) and meeting room (South Hall 4, room #35376). Evaluation kits have been distributed to select customers since early December.

CAMPBELL, Calif., October 8, 2007 – Wisair, a leading provider of Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB (WUSB) chipset solutions, today announced that its WSR601, CMOS single chip was awarded WiMedia platform certification. Covering both MAC and PHY layers, WiMedia certified platforms ensure interoperability and coexistence between products and serve as the foundation for Certified Wireless USB products. This follows upon the WSR601 chip successfully passing WiMedia Physical (PHY) layer compliance and interoperability tests and being designated as a registered PHY in the WiMedia integrators’ list last month.

“This recent WiMedia milestone is a significant accomplishment for Wisair as it gives our customers the highest level of assurance that our products are interoperable with other, WiMedia-based products from other chip providers,” said David Yaish, CEO of Wisair. “This type of certification is essential in order to meet the growing market demand for complete interoperability of various UWB applications. We are excited to help perpetuate this market growth with our own certified products and to be in the first round of products to receive complete WiMedia platform certification.”

Wisair is moving to attain all levels of regulatory certifications for its WSR601 WUSB chip. Earlier this month, the company announced that it received Japanese regulatory certification. This accomplishment was particularly impressive as the Wisair WSR601 chip, with its low, out-of-band emission (below -70dBm/MHz), enabled compliance even without the need for band-3 filtering. See here.

About WiMedia Platform Certification
WiMedia’s Certification Program is comprised of two parts, the first of which is a compliance and interoperability process that tests and “registers” Physical Layer implementations (PHYs) based on the Alliance’s PHY specification. Once a PHY is registered, the program’s second part, WiMedia Platform Certification, adds the MAC to the registered PHYs for use in a UWB platform that can be submitted for certification. Certified platforms have successfully completed both parts of the certification program.
WiMedia certified platforms are the foundation for other applications, such as next generation Bluetooth and Wireless USB. The platform certification process delivers a level of credibility and quality to manufacturers who develop products based on certified WiMedia platforms such that they can be confident the products will perform according to specifications, and will peacefully coexist with other nearby WiMedia certified products.

New chip targets both Wireless USB Host and Device applications

CAMPBELL, Calif., July 30, 2007 – Wisair, a leading provider of Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB (WUSB) chipset solutions, today announced the immediate availability of its new WSR601, a single-die CMOS chip for both host and device Wireless USB applications. The production-ready chip, based on WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB standards, integrates UWB PHY (including RF), MAC and Wireless USB subsystems. The WSR601 combines high performance and low power consumption to offer a cost-effective solution for a wide range of Wireless USB applications, including battery-powered, portable devices.

Implemented in digital CMOS process, the WSR601 supports HWA, DWA and Native device protocols, and features SDIO and USB interfaces, isochronous data transfer and cable and numeric association models. With unique PHY capabilities, the single chip delivers full-room coverage with connectivity ranges of 8 meters at 480Mbps and over 20 meters at 200 Mbps. For mobile devices where battery life is key, the WSR601 provides power-save modes and an average power consumption of 385 mW at 100 Mbps throughput.

A two-wire coexistence scheme allows the WSR601 to coexist in close proximity to other radios such as Bluetooth and 802.11. The chip’s low out-of-band emission, below -70dBm/MHz, provides the flexibility to support Japan regulatory requirements without the need for a dedicated external filter. Additionally, integrated Detect & Avoid technology enables the WSR601 to coexist with other wireless technologies sharing the same spectrum, such as WiMAX.

“With the WSR601, we are responding to the market’s demand to lower the cost of both host and device Wireless USB solutions, yet without compromising performance,” said David Yaish, CEO at Wisair. “We are very enthusiastic about the results of our new chip as its performance is even better than our previous-generation, industry-leading chipsets. The WSR601 will allow ODMs to dramatically reduce module costs through a lower bill of materials (BOM), as well as reduced PCB and assembly costs.”

“For the wireless USB market to realize its full potential, BOM prices must drop in order to lower end-user prices, and, small form factor, low power and battery operated mobile applications must be supported,” said Brian O’Rourke, principal analyst In-Stat. “One way to tackle these market requirements is for the industry to deliver single-chip solutions that provide optimal performance and lower costs. Next, PC and device developers need to begin integrating wireless USB chips into end products, rather than requiring the use of dongles and hubs. Wisair has made another big step in helping to further the proliferation and desirability of wireless USB technology, for consumer applications, as its new chip meets a broad spectrum of size, performance and cost criteria.”

The WSR601 is available and has been shipped to several customers in sample quantities. Production volumes will be available in Q4 2007. For additional chip information please refer to www.wisair.com/products/chipset/wsr601/

Portable Media Players and Printers – the most Attractive Wireless USB Applications

CAMPBELL, Calif., January 25, 2007 – Today, Wisair released the findings of a new Wireless USB (WUSB) survey, which it conducted during the 2007 International CES. The Wireless USB survey of nearly 200 manufacturers, developers, and potential buyers of consumer technology uncovered that portable media players and printers are the most attractive applications for wireless connectivity to the PC.

When asked if Wireless USB would be beneficial for mobile phones (to transfer video/music to and from a PC or to print photos directly to a printer), 55 percent of respondents would find this connectivity solution very beneficial.

“We are extremely encouraged by the results of this survey, as it further demonstrates that there is a burgeoning demand for high speed wireless technology that will remove the clutter of USB cables from the desktop,” said David Yaish, Wisair CEO.

Eliminating the clutter of USB cables in consumer devices
When asked how beneficial Wireless USB would be for linking consumer devices to PCs, 63 percent of respondents found the portable media player to be the most appealing application, followed by printers (more than 60 percent). When it came to connecting external hard disk drives and camcorders (49.5 percent and 52.2 percent of the responses, respectively) respondents indicated this was less beneficial than connecting to digital still cameras (56 percent), printers (60.4 percent) and portable media players (63.2 percent).

Finding the right price point
The Wireless USB survey also uncovered that respondents would be willing to pay no more than roughly 25 percent more for Wireless USB technology over a similar wired product. Nearly 74 percent of respondents indicated that paying 15-25 percent more for WUSB technology was a reasonable, whereas less than 11 percent of respondents would be willing to pay a 30 percent increase for Wireless USB-enabled products. Interestingly, nearly 16 percent of respondents were not willing to pay extra for Wireless USB-enabled products over a similar wired product.

This survey was conducted at 2007 International CES held in Las Vegas from Jan. 8-11. Visitors entered their responses to three key questions in an electronic voting type of manner at a kiosk that was in Wisair’s booth. Complete findings of the survey are now posted at http://www.wisair.com/content/wireless-usb-survey/

CAMPBELL, Calif., November 29, 2006 Wisair, a leading provider of WiMedia Ultra Wideband (UWB) chipset solutions, today announced that its PHY implementation has been designated as a Registered PHY in the WiMedia integrators list after successfully passing and adhering to the Alliances Common Radio Platform specification. Wisairs PHY is available for commercial production via Wisairs chipsets and reference design solutions.

WiMedia is the de-facto Common Radio Platform for Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless communications and has also been adopted by ECMA as the EC-368 standard. WiMedia UWB has been selected by the Bluetooth SIG and the USB Implementers Forum as the foundation radio of their high-speed wireless specifications for use in next-generation consumer electronics, mobile and computer applications.

The WiMedia Alliance Compliance and Interoperability Policy (CIP) defines the compliance, interoperability, registration, and certification required by all commercially available WiMedia-based implementations. It applies to PHY, Common Radio Platform, and Certified End-Product implementations intended for commercial use.

Certification is an important step toward the commercialization of WiMedia-based products and the interoperability between vendors, said David Yaish, Wisair CEO. We intend to continue with the CIP path toward WiMedia Common Radio Platform certification (PHY and MAC), as well as Certified Wireless USB, as these events become available in the coming months.

WiMedias Certification Program is comprised of two parts, the first of which, a compliance and interoperability program, tests and registers Physical Layer implementations (PHYs), based on the WiMedia Alliances PHY specification. Once a PHY is registered, that PHY then becomes eligible for use in a platform that can be submitted for certification against the programs second part, the WiMedia Platform Certification. The WiMedias Certification Program relies on registered PHYs for the verification of a platforms functionality and coexistence mechanisms, thereby providing the assurance that any platform that passes certification will coexist with other certified platforms, regardless of the protocol, end application or company of origin.

About Wisair
Wisair is a leading provider of WiMedia Ultra Wideband (UWB) chipset solutions based on Certified Wireless USB for consumer electronics, PC peripherals, and mobile devices.
David Yaish, Wisair CEO said, “This certification came at an ideal time as several leading brands are slated to ship their first wireless hubs, containing our UWB chipsets, to the consumer market before the end of this year.”

WHQL certification confirms that new hardware devices comply with Microsoft operating system requirements. Certification can often increase a product’s visibility and decrease the vendor’s installation and technical support calls. Without the WHQL certificate, the user can be notified of “potential compatibility issues” when installing a device.

Wisair’s UWB chipsets are just beginning to be seen in end-consumer products, such as UWB hubs, which are slated to be stocked in retail outlet stores from several known brands in the months to come. In addition to UWB hubs, Wisair’s chipsets are suitable for integration into PCs and laptops, digital cameras and camcorders, printers and scanners, external hard drives, PDAs and handheld computers, portable media players, TVs, DVD/PVR players, set-top boxes, and gaming consoles. Wisair’s chipset, consisting of a MAC/Baseband chip and an RF transceiver chip, supports both host-side and device-side implementations including Wire Adapter (HWA and DWA), “Native” Wireless USB, and Dual Role Device (DRD).

About Wisair
Wisair is a leading provider of WiMedia Ultra Wideband (UWB) chipset solutions based on Certified Wireless USB for consumer electronics, PC peripherals, and mobile devices. Leveraging the management teams – decades of wireless communications product development expertise, Wisair is the first company to deliver fully-functional WiMedia-based UWB chipsets and small form-factor reference designs. Today, the fabless semiconductor company continues to focus on delivering low-cost, low-power, and high bit-rate wireless connectivity solutions.

First UWB Product Shipments in Japan slated for Q4 2006

CAMPBELL, Calif., October 11, 2006 Y-E Data Ltd., part of the Yaskawa Electric Group (est. 1915), and Wisair, a leading provider of Ultra Wideband (UWB) chipset solutions, today announced that Y-E Data is bringing to market a new wireless hub featuring Wisairs UWB technology. The wireless hub is scheduled for sampling in October with volume shipment to customers slated for November. The companies are collaborating to introduce products based on Certified Wireless USB.

Y-E Datas four-port wireless hub is designed to seamlessly replace any wireline USB connection with a wireless connection. USB devices such as printers, scanners, remote hard disks, and digital cameras can plug into the UWB hub, which can be placed anywhere in the room. Data is transmitted wirelessly from the hub to a PC or notebook via a dongle that is plugged into the PCs USB port.

To develop the wireless hub, Y-E Data leveraged Wisairs UWB reference design. The maturity of Wisair UWB technology has facilitated our implementation and will allow us to be very early in the Japanese market with a robust end-user product, said Mr. M. Nishino, general manager, Multimedia Product Division at Y-E Data. The approval of UWB in Japan was announced in August by Japans Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC).

We are pleased to cooperate with Y-E Data, as it is poised to capture the Japanese market with the new UWB regulation now in place, said David Yaish, CEO at Wisair. We look forward to seeing Y-E Datas first UWB hubs come to market and toward working with the company on its next line of UWB-enabled product offerings.

About Y-E Data
Y-E Data, Inc. develops and manufactures the computer peripherals that form the basis for today’s and tomorrow’s information-oriented society. Since its founding in 1973 as a member of the Yaskawa Electric group, Y-E Data designed a spark of ingenuity into every product it delivered. The tradition that began with the first Japanese-produced floppy disk drive (FDD) in 1974 is alive and well at Y-E Data today. For more information, see http://www.yedata.com.

Enabling Host, Device and Dual Role Wireless USB Solutions

CAMPBELL, Calif., August 2, 2006Wisair, a leading provider of WiMedia Ultra Wideband (UWB) chipset solutions, today announced that it has expanded its line of chipsets with the introduction of the 542 chip, based on Certified Wireless USB from the USB-IF. Proven in silicon, the new 542 chip provides a high-performance wireless solution for PCs and laptops, PC peripherals, and consumer electronics devices such as wireless hubs, external hard drives, digital cameras, camcorders, and portable media players.

The 542 chip supports multiple Wireless USB modes for host and device-side implementations, including Device Wire Adapter (DWA), Host Wire Adapter (HWA), Native Device and Dual Role Device (DRD). Featuring an integrated Wireless USB protocol stack, the 542 chip is implemented with hardware-software partitioning to deliver uncompromising performance and flexibility.

Based on its 542 combined with its 502 Radio Frequency (RF) chip, Wisair will be providing low-cost and low power-consumption reference designs supporting interfaces such as SDIO, USB and Local Bus Interface.

Our new Wireless USB chipset is created to provide full interoperability with all systems based on Certified Wireless USB, and to enable fast growth of the Wireless USB market, said David Yaish, CEO of Wisair. The 542 chip incorporates the wealth of expertise we have accumulated through the development of our existing UWB chipsets and through numerous implementations with leading OEM and ODM companies.

Wisair has further integrated into the 542 chip its Detect and Avoid (DAA) mitigation technology in order to meet wireless regulatory requirements worldwide, including those from Europe and Japan. The Detect and Avoid mechanism allows UWB to coexist peacefully with current and future wireless technologies sharing the same spectrum, such as WiMAX or 3G/4G cellular networks.
