Wisair and industry partners successfully demonstrate Multi-Vendor UWB interoperability at IDF Fall 04

Intel Developer Forum, San Francisco, CA – September 9, 2004 – Leading UWB chipsets and solutions provider - Wisair marked the conclusion of the Fall IDF with a number of successful interoperability demonstrations between the company and its industry partners.

Interoperability demonstrations were performed among three different Media Access Control (MAC) protocols, all based on the Wisair Evaluation Tool Kits (EVTs). Wisair EVTs represent the UWB radio compliant solution with the Multi Band OFDM (MB-OFDM) physical layer (PHY) specifications. What’s more, the EVTs are based on Wisair’s industry first 501 MB-OFDM RF transceiver chip supporting 480 Mbps, as announced in April 2004.

Industry leaders Intel, NEC Electronics and Texas Instruments participated in the interoperability demonstration, each providing MAC layer protocols and Wireless USB (WUSB) applications. All three companies made use of Wisair’s EVT as the PHY platform for their MAC / WUSB implementation.

“Ensuring interoperability and compatibility with the standards is a highly crucial step for an industry in the process of adapting the technology to the manufacturing phase. Wisair makes sure this is accomplished by collaborating with industry leaders and by providing a full standard compliant solution” said Amir Freund, Vice President of Marketing. “The Wisair UWB chipset can be used by different vendors to develop interoperable applications and solutions for Wireless USB and Consumer Electronics market segments,” Freund continued.

Wisair recently announced the availability of its MB-OFDM Evaluation Toolkit. The EVT is intended for protocol, application development, and technology evaluation, on a MBOA-standardsWisair based platform. The MB-OFDM EVT delivers data rates up to 100Mbps, upgradeable to 480Mbps, supporting both Wireless USB and Wireless Video applications. Wisair develops and markets MBOA standards-based, high performance wireless communication chipset solutions, based on UWB technology. Wisair is a Promoter member in the Multi-Band OFDM Alliance Special Interest Group (MBOA-SIG) and has been instrumental in the development of the MB-OFDM specifications. Wisair is also an active participant in the IEEE standardization process.
