Wisair Introduces Ultra Wideband PHY Module for Intel Certified Wireless USB Peripheral Development Kit (PDK)
Campbell, California, August 23, 2005 – Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB solutions leader Wisair today introduced a UWB physical layer (PHY) module to facilitate the development of applications with Intel’s Peripheral Development Kit for Certified Wireless USB .
The Wisair PHY module together with the Certified Wireless USB PDK allow PC peripheral manufacturers and consumer electronics brands to develop applications while guaranteeing interoperability between host PC’s and peripherals based on the Certified Wireless USB specification. The Wisair UWB module was specifically designed to support the electrical and mechanical design of the Certified Wireless USB PDK. Requirements criteria and pricing for the Certified Wireless USB PDK can be found at the Wireless USB site.
“Wisair’s module, and other PHY vendors that will follow, will greatly aid the integration and development of applications based on the Certified Wireless USB technology,” said Jeff Ravencraft, chairman and president of the USB-IF and Intel technology strategist. “We believe that Certified Wireless USB products using WiMedia radios will be commercially available in the next 12 months,” Mr. Ravencraft added.
“We greatly value Intel’s contribution to the enablement of the Wireless USB market and will continue to closely support these efforts,” said David Yaish, Wisair president and CEO. “Our high-performance UWB Modules will assist the robust interoperability of Intel’s Certified Wireless USB PDK,” added Mr. Yaish.
Employing the WiMedia Alliance’s MAC-PHY interface specifications, the UWB transceiver module incorporates Wisair’s 2nd generation chipset and consists of the Wisair 502 RF Chip, the 531 Baseband chip and Wisair’s external UWB antenna.
The Wisair UWB PHY module will be demonstrated at the Fall Intel Developer Forum held August 23-25 in San Francisco.
