Wisair PHY Receives Registration at Recent WiMedia Certification Testing Event
CAMPBELL, Calif., November 29, 2006 – Wisair, a leading provider of WiMedia Ultra Wideband (UWB) chipset solutions, today announced that its PHY implementation has been designated as a Registered PHY in the WiMedia® integrators list after successfully passing and adhering to the Alliance’s Common Radio Platform specification. Wisair’s PHY is available for commercial production via Wisair’s chipsets and reference design solutions.
WiMedia is the de-facto Common Radio Platform for Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless communications and has also been adopted by ECMA as the EC-368 standard. WiMedia UWB has been selected by the Bluetooth SIG and the USB Implementers Forum as the foundation radio of their high-speed wireless specifications for use in next-generation consumer electronics, mobile and computer applications.
The WiMedia Alliance Compliance and Interoperability Policy (CIP) defines the compliance, interoperability, registration, and certification required by all commercially available WiMedia-based implementations. It applies to PHY, Common Radio Platform, and Certified End-Product implementations intended for commercial use.
“Certification is an important step toward the commercialization of WiMedia-based products and the interoperability between vendors,” said David Yaish, Wisair CEO. “We intend to continue with the CIP path toward WiMedia Common Radio Platform certification (PHY and MAC), as well as Certified Wireless USB, as these events become available in the coming months.”
WiMedia’s Certification Program is comprised of two parts, the first of which, a compliance and interoperability program, tests and “registers” Physical Layer implementations (PHYs), based on the WiMedia Alliance’s PHY specification. Once a PHY is registered, that PHY then becomes eligible for use in a platform that can be submitted for certification against the program’s second part, the WiMedia Platform Certification. The WiMedia’s Certification Program relies on registered PHYs for the verification of a platform’s functionality and coexistence mechanisms, thereby providing the assurance that any platform that passes certification will coexist with other certified platforms, regardless of the protocol, end application or company of origin.
